Predator-ESC-120A XT90 For 90mm Avanti, 90mm Super Scorpion

I like the product but was displeased with the misleading shipping information. If product shipment will be delayed due to being shipped from outside country there should be some indication before paying for order not find out afterwards.

Some background: I bought the 90mm Eflite Viper Jet as an “ARF plus”. So, I needed to supply RX, ESC, motor (EDF). I wanted to put a nice motor and ESC into this plane, so I started looking around at options. I would like to share my sincere personal opinion, in case you find it helpful.

I wanted to use 6S packs (i.e., not 8S, 10S, 12S), as I want to keep the model a bit lighter. I have other planes with multiple batteries and they are great, but it is nice to have the 1 Battery to 1 Flight ratio! :)

I received the ESC and EDF/Motor unit pretty quickly. They arrived separately, but both were packed nicely to protect the product(s) in transit. The packaging for the motor / EDF unit was a box, but the ESC was in a bag package (see this a lot with ESCs - all good!). Everything was super.

In my opinion, both products feel like quality. When you pick something up and you can just tell by the feel, weight, texture, assembly, joint lines, etc. - you just know. It also all functions exactly as documented. Instructions for both EDF/Motor and the ESC was great. You can simply go to the product online, at FMSHobby.com and find all the required info.

As I am reviewing the ESC, I will focus on that first. I was able to use this ESC, as it has a nice shape, size, proportion. I have had others, that are super thick and harder to place in the model, but this, for being a 120, was sweet. I will include a pick of where I put in the viper, there is a little “tray” above the EDF housing - fit like a charm, with room for airflow.

I have not changed the programming. Not yet at least. I did my maiden set to defaults, as my Predator 90mm EDF / Motor unit default settings good.

The ESC has two “servo wire” line sets - one to the ESC, with a “4th-wire” yellow lead for reverse thrust (I am not using at this juncture, as I have a long runway). The RX also, has a second line, meant to use with the programming card, should you want to do that (instead of using TX). I don’t have the card, but these look pretty straight-forward to program with a TX.

I have many items from FMS. I love the FMS products. I feel like you get a lot - you get solid ESC function (the whole point of buying this)! For the price, to me, this was a great deal, as I bought my entire power plant (EDF, Motor, ESC) in this purchase. Another item I bought (two of them in fact - one as a spare lol), is the FMS Futura 80mm v3 (monster of a little jet - THE MOST fun EDF jet I have EVER owned. I mean that - check out my review on that product page.

Aside the ESC, the motor is insanely awesome too. I am turbine waivered, but those planes are a lot of hassle. Fuel, batteries, bigger models, just a PITA. :) Sometimes you want to just fly! This Predator motor sounds pretty “turbine” itself. It sounds powerful, is smooth (mechanically sounds phenomenal - smooth and powerful). I am being honest when I tell you, on a Gens Ace 5500mah 60c, this bird rockets (not flies, I mean ROCKETS), off the runway in about 30 feel - it is awesome! Will put pics of this stuff in case you are curious. Also - this is the specific motor I bought. On 6S, up to ~4200grams. That is 9.25 lbs.

I really like getting into the details when I really love something (like RC planes!), but here is the skinny. All-in, ready to taxi (airframe, power sys, Rx, battery, etc. - everything) - the Viper weighed in at 8.65 lbs - so, I am not Eli Whitney or anything, but WOW - facts, just facts, max thrust potential is 9.25 lbs.So - I am getting better that 1 to 1 weight to thrust in my favor. On 6S - that is awesome.

Again, all of this is my opinion, but I cannot imagine anyone not being thrilled with these products. From my perspective, FMS has quality products, variety, and great service. I had an issue I caused on a jet order, I sent an email to support - they helped me right away.
